Day 10 The Traveling Tinkers

After leaving Nashville we drove 207 miles to Rossville, Tennessee.

It was so scenic with beautiful farms, buttercup fields, cattle, as far as the eye could see. We arrived at Tom's Farm, (Harvest Host) and was greeted by Tom himself. He told us to get settled wherever we wanted to park and come up and join him in the barn so he could tell us about his farm. Rocking chairs were set up, we had a lovely chat with Tom, learned about his farm, 1500 acres where he grows vegetables, pumpkins, corn and flowers.

He has bee hives and honey, we purchased 2 jars of honey. He also had an assortment of animals, 2 roosters, 1 hog, 4 cats, all of which had been dropped off and abandoned by people and he took them in.  There was a play area for children and he also has picnic tables for guests and has bonfires on request.  Lovely man. He offered us electricity and water and said, this is your home while you are here. Help yourself.  We set up under a tree, we had a lovely dinner cooked on our new propane stove, cocktails, and tucked in for the night.  The roosters woke us around 3am, so we were off and running very early.   Tom showed us what real southern hospitality is all about!

  1. That sounds so relaxing. What was it we used to say about putting a buttercup under your chin? I forget the meaning of it!
